Nestled at the southern foot of Tanglang Mountain, Shenyun Valley is an urban wilderness integrating natural charm with leisure and fitness, adhering to the concept of “returning to nature and prioritizing health”. Covering 443 hectares, it boasts an 87% forest coverage rate, housing over 600 plant species and 31 butterfly species, including national protected plants like Alsophila spinulosa and Brainea insignis, making it a “species gene bank” in the city.

The core landscapes consist of three valleys and six hiking trails: Shenyun Valley features clear streams for trekking, fish catching and crab hunting; Butterfly Valley, situated above the forest waterfall, is home to butterflies like Euploea midamus year-round, with popular science installations in Xindie Garden explaining their life cycle; Alsophila Valley preserves primitive fern communities, showcasing paleozoic ecological features. The 9.6-kilometer-long hiking trails cater to different needs—Leshan Trail and Cuizhu Trail are gentle for family walks, while Fenghuang Trail and Chaxiang Trail connect valleys to the summit. At Jimu Pavilion (the peak, 430 meters above sea level), visitors can enjoy a 360° view of Shenzhen’s Luohu, Futian, Nanshan districts and even Hong Kong’s mountains.

For transportation, take Metro Line 7 to Shenyun Station Exit C, transfer to Bus B742 for 2 stops to Shenyun Cultural and Sports Park. A 5-minute walk from the entrance beside the tennis court leads to the forest waterfall, a perfect starting point. The scenic area is free and no reservation is required. It’s recommended to bring mosquito repellent and spare clothes (for stream trekking). Ideal for summer cooling and spring-autumn butterfly watching, avoid valleys on rainy days due to potential floods. With viewing platforms, restrooms and vending machines along the way, it’s a quiet retreat from urban hustle and bustle.
